and venomthe mandatory cuts triggered by a budget deadlock in >> pam: congress could potentially cripple air travel, close national parks and cost millions of americans their jobs. the president calls the spending cuts unnecessary. the american people have some other words. a gallup poll asked people to come up with one word or phrase. to describe their feelings about the sequester. here are some of the most common reponses. "bad" and "good" topped the list, followed by "disaster" and "god help us." sequester means set apart or segregate. in this case, 85 billion dollars has to be sequestered from the federal budget over the next seven months. among the progams facing deep cuts: air traffic controllers. airport security staff. food inspectors. immigration enforcement.

next at eight. of flying in march, forget about it because you'll have to deal with longer security but the fact of the matter is, you will likely see very little impact during the month of march here's why when airport workers are furloughed but you can't furlough federal workers without a 30-day notice and that hasn't happened yet, so that means at least until april 1st there will be a full compliment of air traffic controllers, customs agents and tsa security screeners what happens after april 1st? if those furloughs happen, then you will likley see delays. i'm talking about longer lines to get through airport security and customs. federal officials say that delay could be 30 to 40 minutes. the f.a.a. says during peek travel times, you might also see flight delays of up to 90 minutes into major cities like san francisco but again, that's at least not the only impact you might see before that is on an extremely busy day at the airport..often times tsa or customs might add additional personnel when they know there will be an unusually high number of passengers.

but with sequestration there will be no overtime. and that means no additional workers femmehappening right now. a 'first friday' event in oakland. venomlast month, a shooting broke out after the 'first friday' event ended. and one man was killed. been made. and the event iskron 4's j.r. stone joins us if live from oakland. officers with the santa cruz police department were back on duty today. following the murder of two of their own. on tuesday, detective sgt. loran "butch" baker and detective elizabeth butler were gunned down by jeremy goulet. the officers were investigating a misdemeanor branci-forte avenue. when the suspect opened fire, killing the two officers. goulet had a long history of sex- related assaults and arrests. goulet was later shot and killed by other officers. a memorial for the two police detectives will be held next thursday in santa cruz. meanwhile. the santa cruz sheriff's department is now goulet's potential acquaintences. this woman. terisa johnson. may have been with goulet earlier this year. authorities say, johnson is *not involved with the murders in any way. investigators want to speak to her. to get more information about goulet's johnson's whereabouts are not known. she was last known to be homeless. living at a campsite in santa cruz. a warning tonight for beach- goers.

>> pam: now for a look at our top stories at eight-thirty. across the board spending cuts will kick in later tonight. president obama has signed an order authorizing the government to begin cutting federal budget that will officially enact across-the-board reductions to avert. santa clara county supervisor george shirakawa this, after he was charged with a dozen counts. including perjury, felony misuse of public funds, and violating campaign finances. the supervisor apologized. and says he will plead guilty to the charges later this month. >> and: the national weather service has issued an advisory for anyone headed to the coast this weekend. warning of an increase in dangerous sneaker waves. they are large waves that come ashore with little or no warning. sweeping beachgoers out to sea. the advisory includes beche--beaches.. along the san francisco peninsula and the north bay coast. the advisory will remain in effect through tomorrow night. fears tonight. that a san francisco neighborhood could collapse.

multiiple sinkholes are now creating a dangerous >> pam: situation. in the aftermath of a major watermain break -- and flood. this is the scene from 15th and wawona in the west portal neighborhood. after the main broke on wednesday kron 4's justine waldman has a look at all that damage. >> reporter: these huge sinkholes in the back of his yard, he is worried that his home that he is set for 10 years could collapse. these garbage bags and needed to be in thrown out as a total loss. there is a dumpster full of crash of his possessions. however, some items are being put out in the sun, in hopes that they will try out such as photographs and diplomas. >> initially it was just water damage but as we got further we would notice that when a want to go close the door, the door without a

(countdown: "5, 4, 3, 2, 1") space-x launched it's latest rocket on a supply mission to the international space station. the unmanned rocket lifted morning. space-x says they've fixed the engine problem. that developed shortly after today's launch. but nine minutes into the flight -- only one of the four sets of thrusters were working. nasa says the unmanned rocket's arrival at the space station will be delayed -- so it will not get to the space station on saturday as planned.

now for today's market update. stocks edged out higher on wall street-- closing out an unstable week.

>> pam: as an upturn-- in manufacturing outweighed the threat of looming cuts to government spending. the dow added up 35 points to end the week at 14- thousand- 089-- this after overcoming an early loss of 116 points. the nasdaq rose nine points to close at three- thousand-and the s-and-p added three points to close at one- >> a judge has slashed the amount that samsung was to pay apple over their patent dispute. today, u-s district lucy koh cut some of the damages in last year's landmark decision between apple and samsung. as well as ordering a new trial for damages on some of the products found to infringe on apple's patents. koh carved off 400-fifty million dollars from the one-billion dollar judgement from last august. she stated that the damages needed to be recalculated as part of a new trial. and that jurors had not properly followed her instruction in calculating some of the damages.
